Magic Lantern is a free software add-on that runs from the SDCF card and adds a host of new features to Canon EOS cameras that werent included from the factory by Canon. Formatting the cards in the 20D then inserting to the 5DmkII also produces no change in 5DmkII behaviour. Download Magic Lantern 23 FreeDonation cr.

When inserted into a Canon 20D all cards work except the 64GB one (I imagine due to it's size and the cameras age). I've tried formatting the cards that don't work on a Win PC to see if that helps, but the behaviour is unchanged. After this I need to pull the battery out for a moment to get it back to working with the 8GB card. If I insert one of the other three cards, it will usually give Err 80 on the LCD, or nothing will happen. I've tried installing/uninstalling ML from the one working 8GB card and everything works as expected. Reasons why I was looking at the 5D Mark III to replace my 7D.

Needless to say they removed the card too fast and the camera now has issues, specifically of the four CF cards I use with it, only one now works.

  • On this camera, removing the card too fast might cause permanent damage.
  • After opening the card door, always wait for LED confirmation (or for 5 seconds) before removing the card, even if your camera is turned off!!!.
  • Unfortunately, I handed the camera to someone without remembering to mention the following note from their website: Important notes We have worked a lot on bug-fixing and usability improvements and we sincerely hope you will find it a great companion for all your shooting sessions – from hobbyist to professional.I had my Canon 5D MkII set up and working with the Magic Lantern firmware (ML) for some time without issue. We can safely say it’s no longer a hack, but it’s strongly heading towards a solid piece of engineering that you can trust. The risk, of course, was always stability.Īccording to Magic Lantern’s website, however, the newest version 2.3 is so stable that it no longer deserves to be called a “hack.” Instead, the promo video (below) and release notes alike laud it as “ready for professional use.” Since then it has been ported to most Canon HDSLRS and, for years, it has been known as a hack that brave and/or curious Canon owners have added to their cameras in order to squeeze out more functionality - in some cases a lot more. For those of you who have never heard of Magic Lantern (or know it only as a 17th century image projector) as far as Canon HDSLRs are concerned, Magic Lantern is a firmware add-on that first appeared in 2009 for the 5D Mark II.
